why it's different

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NORMAL CHOCOLATE AND 100% CACAO? - +

Legally, in order to call something 'chocolate' it needs to have sugar in it. It can't be the actul pure real deal. Which is weird, but whatever. Our cacao has no added sugar or sweeteners, it's just nutritionally dense pure cacao with Ayurvedic spices added.

What should I look for in high quality chocolate / cacao? - +

Chocolate that has been artisanally made, minimally processed, and without industrial ingredients like soy lecithin, vegetable fats and emulsifiers is what you want to look for (which ours is of course).

WHAT IS SINGLE ORIGIN? - +

Single-origin is chocolate that’s made from one variety of cacao bean, harvested from one area.

Why is this important? Just like grapes used for wine, the cacao plant has a distinct flavour profile according to where it's grown - it's terroir. Like wine-lovers can, those will very developed palettes may be able to recognise the different notes of single origin cacao.

Our cacao is grown between mango and coconut trees so has a fruity aroma mixed with sweet caramel.

Single origin chocolate means it's also also easier to trace the cacao’s source.

There are some great blended chocolates out there, confectioned by master chocolatiers. But for most chocolate, a whole mixed bag of beans is used from different places, making it very difficult to trace, and then heated to high temperatures so that the cacao flavour (and nutrients) are dulled, and all the beans taste the same.

sugar detox

WHY WILL THIS HELP REDUCE MY SUGAR CONSUMPTION? - +

100% 'chocolate' was really the only thing that helped us reduce sugar in our diet (that we were completely addicted to).

The bitterness of the cacao cuts off sugar cravings: Research has shown that bitter foods (like real 100% cacao) shut off a receptor in our brain that makes us crave sugar.

If you are using it to quit sugar, take a square whenever you usually crave sugar, so typically this could be in the afternoon or right after a meal. It's quite crazy how it cuts off the cravings!

Green tea is also bitter so it's the perfect combo to fight the sweet stuff.

what does it taste like?

Does it taste like chocolate? - +

Ok so this doesn't really taste like normal chocolate. It's REAL CACAOa superfood for the bold, the brave, and for those who don’t mix well with the mainstream.

It's for those who appreciate really good coffee, fine wine or delicious whisky. It's complex, exciting, and for adults only. Our tastebuds are usually so used to sugar that our brain equates 'good' with sweet. But we're trying to turn the tables on that.

It's amazing how in a very short period of time (usually 7 days), of swapping out sugar for our cacao, your tastebuds will start to recalibrate and go from sugar-loving to sugar suspicious.

Just remember to start slowly, with one-two squares per day, letting it melt on your tongue and ideally coupling it with your favourite tea.

how to eat

HOW DO I EAT IT & HOW LONG DOES IT LAST? - +

Real cacao is eaten slowly, with intention. It usually takes 7 days - 3 weeks to finish a tablet.

We recommend starting with a square per day and let it melt on your tongue (don’t chew).

It's best paired with green tea 🍵 or even a whole fruit 🍎, giving your taste buds time to adjust. Then your palette will slowly recalibrate to recognise that bitter = beautiful and sweet is sh*t.

LOVE THAT THEY PAY THEIR FARMERS FAIRLY

I read that they you pay your farmers three times the market price for your beans. This is cool, keep up the good work!
