Here goes:

The characteristics of Kapha

Body: strong build, sturdy bone structure, can be voluptuous, puts on weight more easily than other Doshas

Skin: cool thick skin and slightly oily

Digestion: a very slow digestion and a steady appetite. Kaphas tend to feel heavy or sleepy after meals.

Personality: patient, gentle, loyal, sensitive, empathetic, compassionate, doesn't let the past go easily - which also means they have a great memory. They hate conflict, and are a sponge for other's feelings.

Work: human-oriented and know how to listen so are great communicators and people-connectors (think PR, communications, nurses, teachers...). They like to take their time with projects and can devote themselves to a task for hours. They are very stable, struggle with change, and can stay with the same company for years.

Vikriti (imbalance): digestive problems resulting in weight gain, excess water retention, feeling sluggish and weary, sadness, laziness and depression.

Our advice

Movement:
We know Kaphas, sport = effort. So call your Pitta friend and get them to force you into a regular cardio sesh. It's important for Kaphas to move a LOT. Or lethargy and weight gain come creeping in.

Do not hesitate to break your routine by trying out new sports. Salsa, roller skating, pilates... get crazy kids. If you go with yoga, choose Vinyasa or Ashtanga. We like postures like Warrior 2, Bridge and Head Stand for Kapha, to tone the core.

Food:
Your body type can store fat easily and quickly which can lead to water retention, tissue congestion, cellulite, slower lymph and blood circulation. So, try to avoid excess sugar and salt, as well as fried foods.

Favour bitter (green vegetables, asparagus, artichokes, celery), astringent (citrus fruits, berries, apples, prunes, raisins, pomegranates) and spicy foods (hot spices, pepper, paprika, ginger, turmeric, chili). Proper food combining is ESSENTIAL for Kaphas. We'll be writing more about this in upcoming newsletters, so stay tuned.

Kaphas risk falling into the trap of “emotional snacking”. Switch to whole fruit, 100% cacao, vegetable juice or herbal tea. Spicy infusions made from lemongrass and ginger are ideal. A bit of coffee never hurt a Kapha either.

Lifestyle:
You enjoy sleeping, hanging out in bed, and procrastinating. However, it's important you haul outta bed before 8:00 am, otherwise you will be dozing off all day. Especially since between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. is the most productive period of the day for Kaphas.

Key Kapha Takeaway: break - the - routine. So you've always dreamed of learning Korean...why wait? Time to get moving on your bucket list babe.
